Upload Templates and Data Base Help

This page allows you to select the template pages that you'll use for your project.

Once those pages and database are selected, they are copied to the server from this program. No FTP is needed, it is done by the program. We have however made it possible for you to copy the database via FTP or to use an existing one on your server. For larger databases, this will save time. HOWEVER, in order for this to work, you must have already created a project. You could create a product with no data base, and then download the database to the /Site-Builder/P-projectname directory.

Once a page has been downloaded to the server, the source and comments columns will display the information that is on the server. These pages can be left as is, or they can be overridden with new values from the input fields.

UPLOAD TEMPLATES
This is where you select the templates from your local computer that will be used in the project.

After a project has been run, there are two other columns that display data.

SOURCE
This will display the location of the files you have selected

COMMENTS, sort key
This field will show you the fields that the data base is being sorted by, and also will display error messages if there is a problem with the data base.

INDEX PAGE
You will have as many index page fields as were selected from the index level page. Click on browse, and select the desired index pages.

DETAIL PAGE
Select the detail template page on your computer.

HEADER AND FOOTER
These fields are optional. You can create standardized headers and footers for your site to be added to the finished site. If you make a lot of different sites from data feeds, but want the same basic "look and feel" for the site, this feature can save you a lot of time.

DATABASE
Select the local database file you'll be using here. You have an option to choose a file that is already on your server. It can be faster sometimes to ftp the file directly to your server. Some companies prefer to update your database automatically, which saves you from having to load the database and insures you always have the latest information. The database must go into the /Site-Builder/P-projectname directory, with projectname being the name of your project.

Load and test files

When you select the load and test button, the files you selected from the above fields will be copied over to the server into the /Site-Builder/P-projectname folder. They will also be checked for problems. Any problems will be displayed in the comments column. The problems would typically show up if you're templates aren't formatted correctly, if there's a field being called for in a template that is not in the data base, or if the database is not formatted correctly. For the index pages, if you do not see a field in the Sort column, there is something wrong with the tag syntax in that particular template.

The program will automatically determine whether a database is comma or tab delimited, but if it is in any other format, you'll get an error message.

At the bottom of the display, you'll see the database type, and then a drop down list that displays the field names if you click on the drop down list. The only purpose of this list is for you to view field names, there is no action involved with this drop down list.

When you're satisfied and have no errors, you can select "continue => output."

Use the back button on your browser to return to the program.
